Prop Firms That Allow Swing Trading 2026 — Alpha Capital

Prop Firms That Allow Swing Trading 2026

A practical guide to prop firms that allow swing trading: overnight versus weekend holds, Alpha Swing rules, and the plan differences that show up after you pass the evaluation.

Scope: This page is the buying filter for prop firms that allow swing trading — overnight vs weekend holds, and which Alpha Capital plan still lets you hold after you pass. Live numbers are from the terms and the Alpha Swing help article. Targets and lot caps on the full programme page stay the source of truth.

Quick answer: Overnight holding is allowed on every live Alpha Capital programme, with swap. Weekend holding is the split: Alpha Swing and Alpha One allow it at every stage; Alpha Pro allows it on the evaluation only (Qualified weekend hold is a soft breach); Alpha Direct does not allow weekend holds. Swing news uses a 4-minute duration rule; One / Pro / Direct Qualified Accounts use a 10-minute no-execute window. Confirm live rules before you buy.

Looking for prop firms that allow swing trading? You are usually asking whether you can leave a position open for more than one session, including Friday into Monday, without the firm flattening you or treating the hold as a breach.

At Alpha Capital, overnight holding is allowed on every live programme, and you pay or receive a swap on positions that stay open. Weekend holding is the rule that actually splits the plans. Alpha Swing allows weekend holds in Phase 1, Phase 2, and on the Qualified Account. Alpha One also allows weekend holds at every stage. Alpha Pro allows weekend holds during the evaluation and does not allow them once you are qualified. Alpha Direct does not allow weekend holds.

This guide explains what “allow swing trading” means on a forex evaluation, how overnight holding differs from weekend holding, and which Alpha Capital plan matches a daily or weekly chart. The full Swing programme page stays the source for targets and lot caps. This page is the buying filter.

Evaluations use simulated funds. Performance fees are performance-based, and outcomes are not guaranteed. Confirm live programmes and prices on alphacapitalgroup.uk before you buy.

What prop firms that allow swing trading actually let you hold

A swing trading prop firm is not a marketing badge. It is a published set of holding rules. If the rules force you flat at the cash close, ban Friday holds, or forbid managing a position through a high-impact release, a daily-chart strategy will not survive the evaluation, even if the homepage says swing-friendly.

Read three permissions before you pay:

  1. Overnight holding. Can an open position stay through the daily rollover, with swap, or does the platform flatten you at a session close?
  2. Weekend holding. Can that same position stay through Friday’s close into Monday, on both the evaluation and the Qualified Account?
  3. News trading. Can you keep an existing trade through a listed release, and can you open or close inside a restricted window?

What traders call a challenge is the evaluation. What they call a funded account after they pass is a Qualified Account. You are still in a simulated trading environment. Weekend permission on the evaluation is not automatically weekend permission after you pass, which is why Alpha Pro and Alpha Swing are not interchangeable for swing traders.

If a firm only allows the hold on the evaluation, you will rebuild the strategy the week you become a Qualified Analyst. That is the mismatch this page is for.

Overnight holding vs weekend holding on a forex prop firm evaluation

Traders often search overnight holding prop firm and weekend holding prop firm as if they were the same rule. They are not.

Overnight holding means a position can stay open from one trading day into the next during the week. On Alpha Capital this is allowed on Alpha One, Alpha Pro, Alpha Swing, and Alpha Direct. Swap is charged or credited on those positions. Overnight permission is useful for a two-day hold. It does not answer Friday to Monday.

Weekend holding means the position can stay open across the Friday close. Swap still applies. This is the rule swing traders actually need, because a daily or weekly setup often spends the weekend in the market.

Alpha ProAllowedAllowedNot allowed

On Alpha Pro, holding over the weekend on a Qualified Account is a soft breach. Profits from those trades are removed. The account can stay active if the updated balance does not fall through the maximum drawdown. If your method needs Friday-to-Monday holds after you pass, Pro is the wrong plan even though the evaluation looks swing-friendly.

Alpha Direct skips the evaluation and starts already qualified. It still does not allow weekend holds, so it is not a swing path.

How Alpha Swing weekend holds and news trading rules work

Alpha Swing is the programme built for longer holds. It is a two-step evaluation: Phase 1 is a 10% profit target, Phase 2 is 5%, and the Qualified Account has no profit target. Maximum drawdown is 10% static from the starting balance, so the floor does not trail your equity higher. Daily drawdown is 5%. Each phase needs at least 3 trading days.

Weekend holds are allowed in Phase 1, Phase 2, and on the Qualified Account. That includes working positions and unfilled limits that you are happy to leave standing into Monday.

News trading is allowed on Swing. If you open a trade inside 2 minutes before a listed high-impact release, or up to 2 minutes after it, that trade must stay open for more than 2 minutes to count as valid. The window is 4 minutes in total. It is a duration rule, not a ban on being in the market. A swing limit that fills near the print is usually fine if you are not scalping the spike and flattening inside two minutes.

FX leverage on Swing is up to 1:30, with metals at 1:9 and indices and oil at 1:10. Maximum lot exposure scales with size, for example 10 lots on a $50K simulated account and 20 lots on a $100K simulated account. Confirm the live card for your size. Violations are counted per position. A size that sits over the cap, then another ticket opened while that position is still on, can stack into a second count.

Swing performance fees are on-demand only. You cannot pick bi-weekly on this programme. After you are a Qualified Analyst, you still need the published profit floor and the 40% best-day rule before you can request. Valid requests are processed and paid within 2 business days. For the request method itself, use the daily-payouts explainer. For the full Swing rule stack, use the Swing account explainer.

Alpha Swing vs Alpha One vs Alpha Pro for swing traders

The useful comparison is not “which plan is best.” It is which published hold still exists after you pass.

On Alpha One, Alpha Pro, and Alpha Direct Qualified Accounts, you cannot open or close a listed instrument inside 5 minutes before or 5 minutes after a restricted release. That is a 10-minute window with no new execution. Positions opened more than five minutes before the event may stay open. Stop-gain or take-profit fills inside that window are treated as a soft breach, and those profits are not eligible for a performance fee. During the evaluation phases, news trading is otherwise unrestricted on those programmes.

Alpha Swing keeps the 4-minute duration rule instead of that 10-minute lock. If your method enters or exits around CPI, NFP, or a rate decision, that difference is the product, not a footnote.

If you close every trade before Friday and you never need the weekend, Pro or One can be cheaper and still fit. If the setup lives on the daily chart and must sit through the weekend after you are qualified, Swing is the plan that matches the search prop firms that allow swing trading. One also allows the weekend hold. Swing is the one with the wider static drawdown and the news rule written for longer trades.

Do not use a CME futures evaluation as a substitute. Alpha Futures flattens positions before 16:20 US Eastern each day, so it is not a Friday-to-Monday forex swing product. Start from the Alpha Futures how-it-works page if that is your market.

Who a swing trading prop firm evaluation is actually for

An Alpha Swing evaluation fits you if you already trade from the daily or weekly chart, you size stops that can live inside a 5% daily limit and a 10% static drawdown, and you need the position to stay open through the weekend after you pass. Limit-order traders who park entries ahead of the move are the usual fit.

It is the wrong buy if you are an intraday trader who is flat before the close. In that case a scalper or day-trading plan will usually cost less and will not pay you for weekend permission you never use. Use the scalpers guide and the trading-style chooser rather than stretching Swing into a day-trading box.

It is also the wrong buy if you assumed every Alpha Capital plan keeps weekend holds for life. Pro will let you practise the hold during the evaluation and then remove it on the Qualified Account. Direct never had it. Read the weekend column first, then the price.

Alpha Capital does not guarantee income because you picked Swing. Simulated results do not reflect live trading outcomes. You still have to pass the evaluation without hitting daily or maximum drawdown, and performance fees stay performance-based.

FAQ

Do prop firms allow swing trading?

Some do, if weekend holding and news rules are written for multi-day trades. Many evaluations are built for intraday traders, so you have to read overnight holding, weekend holding, and the Qualified Account news window as three separate permissions.

Can you hold trades over the weekend on Alpha Capital?

Yes on Alpha Swing and Alpha One at every stage. Alpha Pro allows it on the evaluation and not on the Qualified Account. Alpha Direct does not allow weekend holds.

Can you hold trades overnight on a forex evaluation?

Yes on all live Alpha Capital programmes. Swap applies. Overnight holding is not the same as weekend holding.

Does Alpha Swing allow news trading?

Yes. If you open inside two minutes before or after a listed high-impact release, the trade must last more than two minutes to be valid.

Is Alpha Swing a funded account from day one?

No. Swing is a two-step evaluation on simulated funds. After you pass, you trade a Qualified Account and may request performance fees when the on-demand rules are met.

What drawdown does Alpha Swing use?

10% static maximum drawdown and 5% daily drawdown, on each phase and on the Qualified Account. Static means the floor is set from the starting balance and does not trail up with profits.
