Why MT5 matters for Alpha Capital
On Alpha Capital, MT5 is not just another charting app. It is the platform where:
- Risk-management EAs can be used after you enable them at checkout and get pre-approval.
- Copy trading is possible under our approval process. Copy trading on or from cTrader, DX Trade, and TradeLocker is not possible at this time.
If you do not need EAs or copy trading, cTrader, DX Trade, or TradeLocker may fit better.

Spreads and swaps on MT5
On desktop and mobile you can view spreads on the chart, and open swap rates in Properties (mobile) or Specification (desktop). Swap rates are shown in points, not USD.

What is allowed
EAs are permitted on MT5 only, and only for risk management and trade assistance, including:
- Lot size calculation
- Stop-loss and take-profit management
- Break-even functionality
- General risk control

What is not allowed
Automated EAs that execute trades independently without human oversight are strictly prohibited. That includes third-party bots, fully automated strategies, high-frequency trading, and latency arbitrage. Using those can mean immediate account closure.
If multiple traders use the same EA and place identical trades, that can breach our No Group Trading policy and may result in account failure. See prohibited trading strategies.
How to enable an EA
- At checkout, select Enable EA. You still need to contact support to finish enabling it.
- Request pre-approval: email support with the EX5 file. Where available, MQ5 source code may also be submitted for review.
- To keep EA enabled on a Qualified Analyst account, it must be enabled and used during the evaluation.
Any breach, including prohibited or unapproved EAs, can mean immediate disqualification from the evaluation programme and may lead to permanent account termination.
Copy trading rules on MT5
Here is how copy trading works on our MT5 accounts. Deeper UK context: Copy trading UK 2026.
Not allowed
- Copy trading from other groups
- Duplicating trades from fellow traders (Group Trading)
Allowed (with approval)
- Using an external account as Master, with proof of ownership (Account Number, Investor Password, Server)
- Copy trading between two Alpha Capital Group accounts, or using an Alpha Capital account as Master, after you provide Master and Slave account numbers

Platform limit
Copy trading on or from cTrader, DX Trade, and TradeLocker accounts is not possible at this time.
Only one Master at a time. Notify support before changing Masters. If an external Master expires or becomes unverifiable, that can constitute a breach.
US residents: MT5 is not available
For U.S. residents, available platforms are cTrader, DX Trade, and TradeLocker. MT5 is not available.
Traders travelling to the U.S. must not use MetaTrader 5 while staying there.
cTrader is closed to new U.S. customers. Existing U.S. cTrader customers can continue trading and buy new evaluations.
Because EAs and copy trading are not available on DX Trade or TradeLocker, US residents who cannot use MT5 should plan around manual trading on the platforms they are allowed to use. See DX Trade and TradeLocker on our platforms page. Confirm country eligibility: country availability guide.

Card payments are issued promptly after successful payment. Crypto and PayPal can take up to 24 hours.

Can I run a fully automated bot on MT5?
No. Fully automated trade-execution EAs are prohibited. Only pre-approved risk-management EAs are allowed on MT5.
Can US residents use MT5 on Alpha Capital?
No for U.S. residents. Travellers to the U.S. must not use MT5 while there. Use DX Trade or TradeLocker instead — see country availability.
